Exhibited "Lee Gatch Retrospective," The American Federation of Arts, New York, New York, February 1960-February 1961, no. 5. Note Known for his contributions to the Abstract Expressionist movement, Lee Gatch was a Russian-born American artist whose works are characterized by their dynamic compositions and a sense of movement. Immigrating to the United States at a young age his early works drew inspiration from the Regionalis and Social Realist movements. As his work developed he transitioned to a more abstract approach. In his abstract works, Gatch often employed a gestural and expressive manner, using bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors to convey emotion and energy. Gatch experimented with a variety of techniques and styles throughout his career and was constantly evolving. He married fellow artist Elsie Driggs in 1935 and the couple settled down in Lambertville, New Jersey. For other examples by the Artist, please see Lots 37, 55 and 59. The unlined canvas in excellent original condition, with no sign of inpainting as seen under UV light. With a shiny finish, which might reveals an excess of varnish.
