Gautier' Broad profiled wooden frame Dimensions: 53 x 42 cm Good condition Appealing still life with apples and jars in dark colored interior French painter Firmin Gautier worked primarily as a portrait and genre painter, occasionally painting religious subjects. The work presented here, however, shows a still life composition with apples and glazed earthenware jars, which are arranged on a white tablecloth before dark, contrasting background. The painting is signed lower right 'F. Gautier' and is overall in good condition. The canvas is relined. Scattered superficial abrasions visible in the margins, otherwise of good impression. No findings under UV. The painting measures 53 x 42 cm, the framed dimensions are 73.5 x 61 cm. Firmin Gautier (1838-1877) Firmin Gautier studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Alexandre Cabanel and Ernest Hébert as well as at the Académie de France in Rome for a short time. He was represented in the exhibitions of the Paris Salon from 1866-77. One of his paintings is owned by the Museum of Grenoble.
