The sky and the mountain are dipped in a pastel purple. The mountain peak reflects the bright pink of the sunset. In expressionist manner the image reminds of the motives of the painter Gabriele Münter. This depiction also reflects the influence of Bonnard and Van Gogh, the role models of the artist Ludwig Gelpke. The painting is in good condition with usual signs of age. Minimal framing marks with loss of color can be seen. The paint surface shows fine craquelure. The work is monogrammed lower left in yellow. It's titled, dated and signed at the back with ‘Bietschhorn im Abendrot Februar 1980 40 x 40 L. Gelpke’. The original frame is in good condition with slight traces of wear.
