Sculptor, b. 1910 - d. 1976

Sculptor Amedeo Gennarelli was born in 1881 in Naples and learned his trade in his hometown before moving to Paris in 1909. He soon became an active influencer in the Art Deco period, and Amedeo Gennarelli's sculptures of nudes in bronze made their debut exhibit at the Salon of the Societe des Artistes Francais in 1913. Sculptor Amedeo Gennarelli also created some terracotta pieces, which sold well in Alfred Dunhill stores in Paris, London, and New York.     Amedeo Gennarelli (1881 - 1943) Circa 1920. The nicely sculpted portrait of a young woman coiffed in a style that foretells the more radical styles of the 20s and 30s is richly patinated in dark brown with touches of verdigris in the recesses. The work was cast at the Perdot Foundry in Paris per the founder's mark back side of the casting near the artist's signature and the stamped lettering of Made in France. The fine bronze is displayed on a handsome block of veined black marble for an overall height of 23 inches. Measures 23 x 7.75 x 7.75 inches and weighs 74 pounds.     Amedeo GENNARELLI (1888-1943) "Jeune femme souriant, la tête tournée" 1928, sculpture en terre cuite dorée et signée sur la base à droite : A.Gennarelli, H:40 cm. Amedeo Gennarelli, né à Naples et élève de Lerace, est l'un des sculpteurs majeurs de l'école italienne qui émigra à Paris pendant la première décennie du XXème siècle et qui fit partie de la communauté artistique internationale installée à Paris. Dès l'âge de 25 ans, il expose avec succès au Salon des artistes français en 1913 et y participe jusqu'à la veille de la seconde guerre mondiale. Influencé par les traditions des Scapgliatura (Giuseppe Grandi et Leonardo Bistolfi) et par le réalisme napolitain de Vincenzo Gemito et Achille d'Ors, il s'oriente, une fois installé en France vers la figuration néoclassique française à l'image d'artistes comme Gilbert Privat, Paul Belmondo, Janniot ou encore Marcel Renard. Ses œuvres sont diffusées à travers de rares terres cuites et des bronzes édités par la Maison Susse. Celle-ci contribua à sa renommée et son nom est associé au mouvement Art Déco en France.
