Le marché a erronément attribué nombre de ses oeuvres à Henri Paul Gérard alias Henry Gérard. Thyssen-Bornemisza de 1977 Peintre post-impressionniste français né à Toulouse, Henry Paul Gérard s'inscrit comme élève libre à l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de sa ville natale. Il décide de se consacrer à l'art graphique à ses début en suivant des amis à Paris et il y rencontre Toulouse-Lautrec dont il fait un portrait. Il suit également des cours de peinture sous la direction de Jules Lefebvre et de Gustave Boulenger. Peintre inclassable, il suit les évolutions picturales de son temps. Sous l’influence des impressionnistes, ses natures mortes rappellent celles de Paul Cézanne. Pourtant lorsque l’opportunité se présente d’exposer ses toiles au Salon des artistes français à Paris, il revient à un style beaucoup plus classique. Avec la découverte de la Provence et son installation à Martigues sur les rives de l'étang de Berre, Henry Gérard va y puiser l’essentiel de son inspiration. Sa palette devient plus colorée, éblouissante de lumière, allant jusqu’à tendre vers une expression fauviste. La description de l’œuvre de Henry Gérard ne serait pas complète sans aborder cette période où le peintre cède à l’influence des orientalistes, s’inscrivant dans les pas de Félix Ziem qui a donné ses lettres de noblesse à la Venise provençale.

Hans Wiesman (1918-1988) The work of painter, draftsman and graphic artist Henri Gerard "Hans" Wiesman (1918-1988) is seen as the best in Dutch figurative art of the 20th century. His landscapes, cityscapes and portraits are of exceptional beauty, lived through and intense. Strangely enough, he is not (yet) known to a very large audience. Born in Sloten, he lived and worked near and far: for example in the Groot Bentveld estate (between Aerdenhout and Zandvoort), in southern France, Spain and North Africa. Nature, city views and vistas were important sources of inspiration for his many paintings, drawings and etchings. Hans Wiesman developed as an intuitive, driven and possessed artist. Because of his way of working, in which both the material he worked with and the subject he captured were equally important, and his changing moods? from harmonious to depressive ? his work evokes comparisons with artists such as Permeke and van Gogh.
