London docks signed with monogram (lower left) oil on canvas 24 x 34 in. (61 x 86.4 cm.) NOTES The present view of London docks is taken from the East. The artist has positioned himself at the entrance of Tobacco Dock with tobacco warehouses on either side of the characteristically shaped dock. The Western Dock can be seen with the outlines of Tower Bridge and the warehouses of St Katherine's Docks in the distance. The London Docks were built in 1805 and amalgamated with St Katherine's Docks from 1864. They were closed for shipping in 1969 and were filled up to make way for housing.
