      Ori Gerscht, C-Print, Ghost-Olive No. 7, Israel, 2003

      Est: $10,000 - $15,000

C-print mounted on aluminum Israel, 2003 Ori Gerscht (b. 1967) – Israeli photographer Numbered in typeset on a label affixed to the reverse ‘2/6’ Dimensions: 40 ½ x 33 ¼ in. (102.9 x 84.4 cm.) Very good condition Provenance: CRG Gallery, New York Estimate $10,000-$15,000 Exploring the symbolic power of the ancient olive trees of Israel, Ori Gerscht’s “Ghost Olive” series portrays these natural beings that carry political and cultural significance. Taken in the bright midday sun, Gerscht intentionally overexposes the image, bleaching the film and fading the images of the strong trees. The result is a delicate dissolution of form, transforming these symbols of strength into images of fragile beauty. Executed in 2003, this c-print mounted on aluminum is numbered two from an edition of six and measures 40 ½ x 33 ¼ inches. In overall good condition. Ori Gerscht (Israeli, b. 1967) Photographer and video artist Ori Gerscht often explores the psychology of collective trauma, examining how time and landscape both preserves and erases history. Born in Tel Aviv, Gerscht studied at the University of Westminster and the Royal College of Art, London. His work can be found the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Tel Aviv Museum of Contemporary Art, the Tate Gallery, London, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
