Gilbert & George Art for Sale at Auction

Artists Gilbert and George rebelled against the idea of artists belonging to specific groups. Gilbert Proesch and George Passmore met at Central Saint Martins in London, a college focused on art and design education, and they've been working together as artists since 1968. Early Gilbert and George prints often showcase their flair for mosaic, black-and-white photo and drawing combinations. In later years, their work emphasized color and took on a cartoonish look.

Gilbert and George prints often attract collectors who enjoy their pieces that reflect the urban life, along with the struggles and dreams of the times they are set in. Many pieces of Gilbert and George's art for sale depict life at its most vulnerable, making them transcend the decades. In 1989, the duo exhibited 25 pieces that embodied illness and destruction at the Anthony d'Offay Gallery for an AIDS charity. You can search for photography art for sale at auction and online to add a striking piece to your home decor.
