          CASE OF THE HOWLING DOG", PERRY MASON. A watercolor magazine illustration for Liberty Magazine circa 1933, depicting a man in a suit with a cigarette consulting a woman in business attire. Captioned "Put on that coat, sister, and then grab a taxi and five to the Breedmont Hotel". Work is addressed to Morris Weiss from Frank Godwin. Housed in a birdseye maple modern frame with liner, matted under glass. SIZE: overall 26" x 27 1/2", sight 18 1/4" x 20". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: the book "The Case of the Howling Dog" by Erle Stanley Gardner, Collector's Edition and copy of part of the image an article. CONDITION: very good overall condition. PROVENANCE: from a Private Florida Collection. (05-928/TG). $350-550.

Son succès a été particulièrement grand en France, où cette aviatrice-reporter a débarqué en 1937, dans Hop-Là. Elle a connu bien des supports et des noms différents en français. La planche proposée dans cette vente est rarissime. En effet, un incendie aurait détruit la majorité des planches originales. Celle-ci, qui comporte une belle grande case, est sans doute la seule disponible sur le marché.

          (1889-1959 American) Unframed and unmounted ink and watercolor on paper, signed by the artist lower right on the third panel, also contains King Features Syndicate Inc. strips attached with a copyright date of 1948. This piece comes with a hand written and hand signed letter by the artist on the artist's own personal letterhead, 7" x 22". Overall very good, minor remains of glue stain on the edges from a previous mounting, verso also has remains of glue from the old mounting which is still sticky, minor waviness to the strip but no restorations, tears or apparent losses.
