      Stephanie Allfree Godwin, British 1917-2006 -   Tondo: The Cherry Ribbon, 1944;  watercolour, gouache and pencil on paper, signed and dated upper left 'Stephani Allfree 1944', diam. 23.4 cm (ARR)  Exhibited:  Ryman & Co. Ltd., Oxford, 'Edward Scott-Snell', 1944, no.28 (according to the label attached to the reverse of the frame)  Note:  Stephanie (Stephani) Mary Godwin Allfree  was the daughter of the painter Geoffrey Stephen Allfree (1889–1918), who was known for his paintings made during WWI a number of which are now in the collection of the Imperial War Museums. She met Edward Scott-Snell (1912–1988) - later known as Edward Godwin - in 1935 and the pair lived together at William Morris's home Kelmscott in the 1940s, following the death of May Morris in 1938. The pair were devoted to Morris and the legacy of the Arts & Crafts movement and a number of their works are now in the collection of Society of Antiquaries. Their lives and work together were recently a subject of an exhibition at Kelmscott Manor as well as a book  'The Starlight Years: Love and War at Kelmscott Manor, 1940-1948' by Joscelyn Godwin.
