  • 2 Till Goodan "Westward Ho" Chromolithographs (1939)
    Apr. 12, 2024

2 Till Goodan "Westward Ho" Chromolithographs (1939)

    Est: $800 - $1,200

Tillman Parker Goodan (American, 1896-1958). "The Stranger" & "Guardians of the Range" from "Westward Ho" series - 2 chromolithographs, ca. 1939. Both signed in the plate on lower left. Till Goodan was an artist as well as a rodeo rider who created art inspired by cowboys in the American West. This wonderful pair of sizable chromolithographs features groups of cowboys and their horses set in glorious western landscapes. Born in Colorado, Goodan moved to California in 1905 where he became an artist and also worked on a farm as a cowhand, roper, and rodeo hand. Goodan's art focused on the world he loved and experienced firsthand. Size of images: 23.5" L x 29.25" W (59.7 cm x 74.3 cm) Size w/ borders: 25.75" L x 31.375" W (65.4 cm x 79.7 cm) Till Goodan's early art commissions were for the Hollywood motion picture industry as well as theaters such as Graumann's Chinese Theater. Goodan continued riding in rodeos while painting cowboys, and his friends included famous Hollywood cowboys Gene Autry, Buck Jones, as well as Tom, Mix, and Roy Rogers. Interestingly, Goodan also drew imagery for the Gene Autry comic books! Goodan spent the majority of his life in California. He set up a studio and home in Hollywood, and owned a ranch near Lebec as well as a mountain retreat in the Sierras. While Goodan painted the California landscape, many of his paintings were inspired by his love for the desert lands of Arizona and New Mexico. He painted from first-hand experience in these locations and lived a western lifestyle right until the day he died - suffering from a heart attack while serving as Grand Marshall of the Tulare California Rodeo on May 24, 1958. Provenance: private Colorado Collection; Private Collection of a Private Colorado Family All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience. #168463
