Arwed D. Gorella individual Life Dates b. 1937 Nationality German Artist Biography In 1955 Arwed Gorella takes up studies at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts, attending Alexander Camaro’s master classes from 1960. A year later he freelances as a graphic designer and painter. In 1967 he designs stage sets for the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer. In 1968 he is awarded the prize of the Heinrich Zille foundation, and in 1969 he is co-founder of the Berlin ‘Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst’ (New Society of Fine Arts). In tandem with Thomas Neumann he produces the TV film ‘Künstler und Kommunarden – Die Parise Kommune von 1871 in bildender Kunst und zeitgenössischer Fotografie’ (Artists and Members of the Commune – The Paris Commune of 1871 in Fine Art and Photography). In 1972 he is a founder member of the artists’ association ‘Aspekt’, mounting group exhibitions there with Hans-Jürgen Diehl and Wolfgang Petrick until 1978. From 1974 Arwed Gorella is visiting lecturer at the Berlin College of Education for the Fine Arts, and in 1975 he joins the Deutscher Künstlerbund (German Artists’ Guild). Two years later he is appointed professor at the Braunschweig Academy of Fine Arts, all the while continuing his cooperation with several theatres.
