    Est: $1,400 - $1,800

Philipp Theodor von Gosen (German, 1873-1943) "Die Mutter", 1939, a patinated bronze argente figure depicting the artist's mother in cap and cloak, her hands clasped before her, signed on the reverse of the base "v. Gosen 1939", h. 11-3/8". Note: Augsburg-born Theodor Von Gosen studied in Munich under Wilhelm von Ruemann from 1895 to 1896, and in 1906 he was appointed head of the bronzeworks at the Breslau Art Academy. The artist had created another, very similar, figure of his mother nineteen years earlier, in her more robust days.
