London’ on the canvas on verso Dimensions: 45.5 x 86.5 cm In gilded carved frame: 62 x 102 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Western Germany Next to picturesque Thames landscapes also harvesting scenes like this with wide, golden cornfields are the artist’s favorite themes Condition: The painting is in overall good condition, consistent with age. There are occasional small holes in the canvas and minor abrasions, both presumably due to framing. The area of the sky bears faintly visible stress cracks to the paint layer and occasional pale stains. The frame is in good condition with slight signs of age and use. The painting measure 45.5 x 86.5 cm. The framed dimensions are 62 x 102 cm. William Gosling (1824-1883) William Gosling was born in Wargrave. He worked first in London, later in Keynsham and Bath before he settled in Wargrave again in1857. The picturesque Thames landscape there was a favorite motif of his work. Gosling presented his work at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Royal Society of British Artists, which member he became in 1854. Paintings by the artist are housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Reading Museum. (fea) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
