        Est: $4,000 - $7,000

VASILY YACOVLEVICH GRACHEV (Russian 1831-1905) A Farewell Kiss Bronze with dark brown patina Signed on base and with Woerffel foundry mark St. Petersburg Height 13 inches Width 12 inches (33 x 30.5cm) Vasily Yakovlevich Grachev was one of the most popular sculptors in 19th century Russia. Born into a lowly state, as a boy, he was apprenticed for six years to the court master of Vasily Andreev in St. Petersburg, from whom he studied for six years. In the future, the sculptor worked for many noted silversmiths, including Sazikov, Ovchinnikov, Khlebnikov and others, mostly modeling animals. In 1885 Grachev opened his own studio. His works are characterized by vitality, a realistic interpretation of the plot, a careful study of details and textured surfaces, as well as a masterful transmission of movement, dynamics and an expressive study of details, especially small ones. While there are a number of works by Grachev depicting a soldier's farewell, the offered lot is a less frequently encountered example SHIPPING NOTICE: Jackson's is your sole and only source for one stop packing and shipping.
