Dimensions ; 23 x 35 cm --------- Wash drawing on paper signed and dated lower left. -------- Artiste, designer et enseignant qui a passe la majeure partie de son enfance dans le Suffolk, Green étudie à la Slade School of Fine Art de 1922 à 1924 sous la directon d'Henry Tonks. Les premieres oeuvres de Green s'inscrivent sous l'influence de Tonks, bien qu'il lui arrive de peindre des tableaux abstraits. En tant qu'étudiant, il avait été chargé de peindre un portrait à l'Université de Cambridge, ce qui le conduit à réaliser ceux du compositeur Benjamin Britten, du poète Cecil Day Lewis et de l'actrice Sybil Thorndike. Green voyagera beaucoup, capturant l'atmosphère de lieux tels que le Caire, la Russie, les îles de la Mer Égée ou encore la Dordogne. Artist, designer and teacher who spent most of his childhood in Suffolk. Green studied at Slade School of Fine Art, 1922–1924, with teachers including Henry Tonks. Green’s early work was in the Tonks tradition, although latterly he painted abstracts. As a student he was commissioned to paint a portrait at Cambridge University, which led to others including composer Benjamin Britten, poet Cecil Day Lewis and actress Sybil Thorndike. Green travelled widely, capturing the atmosphere of places such as Cairo, Russia, the islands of the Aegean and the Dordogne.
