      Est: $2,000 - $3,000

CHARLES JAMES GREENWOOD (1893-1965) TROUT! / CANADIAN PACIFIC. 1934. 35 1/4x23 3/4 inches, 89 1/2x60 1/4 cm. Condition B: repaired tears, restored losses, abrasions and overpainting at edges and in image; scuffing at edges and in text. Silkscreen. Framed. This Canadian Pacific poster pairs a peaceful river landscape and lone fisherman with inviting messages for the viewer - promising not only the most beautiful destination, but also the easiest mode of transportation for the trip. While many game posters from this period feature the giant fish, bear, or moose to tempt prospective sportsman, this image instead uses pastel colors to create an alluring scene. Charles James Greenwood was born in Yorkshire, England, and moved to Canada after finishing his studies at the Brantford School of Art. "Between November 1924 and February 1940, he worked for Canadian Pacific as a commissioned artist," then began working full time as an artist for the Exhibits Branch until retirement (Canadian Pacific p. 162). Not in Canadian Pacific.
