    Two French Historical Bronze Medals, the first by Rene Gregoire (1871-1945), 1917, commemorating the entrance of the United States into World War I, the obverse with a bust of Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924) between the torch of Liberty and fasces of Right, above the American eagle and surrounded by stars, with the legend "Wilson", the obverse an allegorical scene of America meeting Britannia and Marianne before the seas of war, with the legend "La Droite est plus precieux que la paix...Nous nous battons pour la liberte" ("Right is more precious than peace...We are fighting for freedom."), dia. 69 mm; the other by Louis-Oscar Roty (1846-1911), 1880, a subscription medal for the financiers of the first failed attempt to create the Panama Canal, the obverse an allegorical scene of Peace introducing the Atlantic and Pacific, the reverse with legend "Canal de Panama Compagnie Universelle du Canal Interoceanique . 7, 8, et 9 Decembre 1880/a Ses Souscripteurs la Banque Pariesienne", dia. 35 mm, both touchmarked on the edge with the "cornucopia" medal mark in use from 1880.
