    Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 64 x 95 cm (unframed), 101 x 132 cm (framed). This beautiful seascape features a rich composition, full of scenes showing a variety of characters and ships of the Dutch fleet. In the background, one can see islets adorned with towers and ancient ruins as a whim, a theme that the painter particularly appreciates.

Professionally rest., relined. - Expertise: We are grateful to Fred Meijer for kindly confirming the authenticity - Dutch marine and landscape painter from a family of artists. Dated paintings suggest that G. was active in Venice from 1717-19, later he can be traced to Padua. Some of his motifs were sold to the Tsar's court, but a planned stay in St. Petersburg probably did not materialize. Mus.: St. Petersburg, Bamberg. Lit.: Thieme-Becker, Bénézit.

    HAFENLANDSCHAFT MIT SCHIFFEN UND FIGUREN Öl auf Leinwand. Doubliert. 34 x 43,5 cm. In vergoldetem Rahmen. Blick von erhöhtem Standpunkt auf eine große Hafenanlage. Diese wird linksseitig begrenzt von einem hohen, teils bewachsenen Felsen mit kleinem Wasserfall. Auf dem ruhig fließenden Wasser selbst einige figurenbesetzte Schiffe und Boote, darunter auch eine prachtvolle Fregatte. Rechtsseitig die zerklüftete Felsenküste mit zahlreichen kleinen Figuren und einer großen steinernen Turmanlage. Im Vordergrund ein Uferstück mit Figuren im Gespräch und beim Transport von Waren sowie zwei ausgelegte Anker. Am Horizont schemenhaft erkennbare blau-weiße Bergformationen, unter hohem Himmel mit großen weißen Wolkenformationen. Vom Kolorit an Werke der Familie Grevenbroeck erinnernd, für die Darstellungen mit Hafenanlagen typisch waren. Rest. (1321172) (3) (18)
