  • 1847: Sale of Crown Land - Wastelands
    Apr. 28, 2018

1847: Sale of Crown Land - Wastelands

    Est: $100 - $150

A despatch by Earl Grey to Governor C.A. Fitzroy (significant for his role in the establishment of Sydney University, the Royal Mint, and supporting the bicameral system of government later adopted in the Constitution), which creates regulation for the sale and use of crown land. The regulations attempt to create opportunity for smaller landholders, reducing monopolies on land that was considered 'waste lands'. A foolscap printed document of 15 pages with a single stitch thread binding (no covers). A good copy, there is some discolouration and chipping of the edges. A fascinating insight into the colonial law making system, with particular reference to land.
