    James Griffin (1850-1931) American/ b. Ireland. Marsh scene at sunset. Provenance: Dr. Arnold Werschky. Born in Cork, Ireland, James Griffin was an active artist in the Bay Area of Northern California in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In Ireland, he was a pupil of James Brennon at the Cork School of Art and immigrated to San Francisco in 1885. He established a home in Oakland at 3343 Chestnut, and from 1912 to 1915 taught painting at the California College of Arts and Crafts. He died in Amadore County California in 1931. Overall Size: 13 x 15 3/4 in. Sight Size: 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 in.
