      Peter Alfred Gross (Illinois, France, 1948-1914) framed oil on canvas depicting a farm landscape with girl tending geese, signed and dated to lower right "P.A. Gross, Paris/87". Gilt and gesso frame measures 25” in height with width of 35-3/4", stretcher measures 19-1/4” in height with width of 31-1/8”. In overall good condition, painting has been restored and is titled to the back “Vaux De Cernay, France”, and to the stretcher. All measurements are approximate. Opinion of attribution is based on many factors including Certificate of Authenticity when available, it is our recommendation that all lots be examined in person by prospective bidders or by a trusted expert they have asked to advise on the purchase. Gilt and gesso frame measures 25” in height with width of 35-3/4", stretcher measures 19-1/4” in height with width of 31-1/8”. In overall good condition, painting has been restored and is marked to the back “Vaux De Cernay, France”, and to the stretcher. All measurements are approximate. Peter Alfred Gross was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1849 and lived most of his career in France, 1874-1914. He is primarily known for his landscapes of the French countryside and his seascapes. Gross studied in Paris with Petitjean, and exhibited at the Paris Salon. He also exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He was instrumental in the founding of the Allentown Art Museum through a bequest in his will. A large example of his work in on display in the foyer of the museum. He died
