      SARAH A. PETERS GROZELIER (AMERICAN, 1821-1907) PAIR OF MINIATURE PORTRAITS, watercolor, each seated bust depiction of a gentleman in a black jacket, vest, and cravat, his wife a black dress, colorful paisley shawl, and lace bonnet trimmed in blue, a mourning hair brooch on her dress, no signature located, Verso of gentleman inscribed "Feb. 12th 1846 / Painted By / S. A. Peters", each with White Plains, NY framer's label. Housed under glass in likely later frames with original gilded mats. Mid 19th century. 3 3/4" x 3" sight, 6 3/8" x 5 1/2" OA. Catalogue Note: A miniature portrait of Anna Tuckerman by S. A. Peters is in the collection of Amherst College. Another example attributed to the artist was sold by Christies, January 18, 2008, lot 654, from the collection of Marguerite and Arthur Riordan, Stonington, CT. Grozelier's obituary made note that "She was a well-known portrait painter, and had a studio in Boston many years. Many of the prominent families of the state were her patrons in years gone by."

Hand colored with watercolor and chalk, in the original flyspeck lemon gold frame, glazed, OS: 20 1/2" x 32 1/2", SS: 15" x 27". Edge tears, light rippling, some foxing.
