      In the beginning of the 20th century the color woodcut became a very popular and experimental medium of contemporary art in Austria with representatives such as Jungnickel; Moll; Moser; etc.; who are currently honored in an exhibition of the Albertina. Waldemar Güttner; who was a friend of Egger-Lienz and Gurschner; left a few impressive examples. These woodcuts were not produced in the same manner but in the socalled pallet pressure. The colors are taken directly from the pallet for each hand pressure; so that no pressure is equal to the other; as is the case with mechanical pressure; but every print is an unique one produced by the artist himself. In contrast to the actual woodcut which emphasizes black-and-white lines and surfaces art; sometimes these are also formed by painted surfaces; the color harmonies with peculiar colors stands in the focus of the color-cutholes made by Güttner and Gurschner. woodcut on paper signed lower right and titled lower left on mat 4;3 x 5;1 inch;
