        Property from a Private North American Collection, Lot 3052-3069 Zeng Guofan, Ruan Yuan, He Shaoji, Wu Yun and others Letters ink on paper, twenty-eight leaves  There are ten set of letters, mainly the late Qing scholars writing to He Shoji, including Zeng Guofan, Ruan Yuan, Luo Ruhuai, Fang Shuo, Qiao Songnian, Lao Chongguang and two He Shaoji’s letters to the family, one He Shaoji’s poem manuscript and one Wu Yun’s poem manuscript, totally with one seal of Luo, one sale of Fang, one seal of He and two seals of Wu. with eleven collector’s seals various sizes ---------------------------------------------- 北美私人收藏,拍品編號3052-3069 曾國藩、阮元、何紹基、吳雲等晚清諸家 家書及信札 水墨箋紙 十組二十八開 (一)曾國藩致何紹基札  釋文:子貞年老前輩大人閣下:前接二月廿二日惠書,意謂台從即當由浙西旋,未遽奉報,頃丁雨生□,乃知尚留滬上,跌宕文游,低回故壘,吳郡新詩,杭州舊酒,其亦有今昔之感乎?抑立誓乾坤,不發牢騷,不使萬物之盛衰,忻戚一溷高褱,如集萬夫築金隄以防蹄涔之水乎?湘中一案,毛惲兩帥鎸職,惲公之賢,鄉人過此者多稱道之,不僅得賢者齒頰之芬。聞所坐故甚微薄,或不久於磷緇。豫省髮捻分為兩股,南股由唐泌以窺隨棗,北股由陳宋以趨山東,過兖州後又分兩股,一偪濟南,一竄蒙陰。北有黃河天險,或可無虞。東□進而青萊,退而沂海,處處可慮。世亂民貧,動輒裹脅,累万多難,殆未亡耶!此間觕託安謐,餉項過絀,應撤手莫不能及時裁撤,無告窮民,亦不能加意存卹。阡陌荒蕪,跨州連縣,無資買牛,無人開墾,撫事傷情,只增慙悚。旌從已入浙否?何日果還故鄉?風便惠示一二。書不盡言,諸希心鑒,敬問台候多福。年侍曾國藩頓首。三月廿二日。 (二)阮元致何紹基札 釋文:揚州舊有漢銅雁足鐙,藏馬氏玲瓏山館,余童時讀《樊謝集》,知而慕之。彼時馬氏鹺業已衰,書物散失,不知此物歸何處矣。後卄年,余作《續欵識》時,不見世間有此搨本,無從橅載,然應在各鐙末注云「有馬氏某鐙,見某集,今不見,待訪」十數字為密耳。木庵為也園之子,道光五六年也園遊于粵東,余與之認同年(甲辰召試中書名振甲),屢見之,未談及此鐙,殆是木庵手得,中間又轉一兩姓矣。年兄來考及時,足為此鐙洗開二千年沈晦,六舟之剔出各字,亦足鑿㱟渾沌。馬半槎風雅好古,為揚商家之弟一,但其時厲君雖客于其家,于金石考古之事猶未精細,搨手亦粗,今忽得此,竟寍拓本及釋文荷屋收入《欵識》中,何快如之,曾即交與子苾否?大作之詩遠逾樊謝,則又非彼等所知也。來稿存之案頭以備察檢,另尺牘四冊閱竟奉還。連日生又患痢更憊,草草。子貞年兄。生阮元頓首。 (三)何紹基家書〔一〕 釋文:前日蔣家送到十五日柬字書及擬作,慰悉家中平安,光景可由。我在都多耍幾日, 或竟過年亦未可知。友朋白壽陽、華亭、壽臣、心泉,無人不想留此過年也,惟壽陽詩力太密,幾於無日不有吟簡往復。潘家兄弟亦纏得狠,忙煞老蝯,虧得酒杯到手,不怕催租耳。《婁碑》鉤完,《石門頌》尚未借到,《寫石經》算已百金交割。式古堂物有人還二百金不肎售,真怪事也。張昭送五十,唐世翼寄二百,旅費裕如,前票竟用不著了。昨上鐙時,五茆書房被竊銀錶,共算去二百餘金,真是命裏所招,都中此讖方威靈。薌生被劫七千餘已廿日,尚未破案。今日沈陰欲雪,歷下何如?《夏承》木刻雙鉤有人要,可覓便寄來。瓊、珊俱好,桂兒,至、瓜孫好。廿七日辰正,蝯老字。 (四)何紹基家書〔二〕 釋文:十多日不得柬信,殊為懸念。初二日所發信已收到未?悲緒數日,過初五後也就平坦了,真不能自解也。欲雪不雪,十分進盼。昨得朱道長一奏,或當轉機耳。慶翁開缺,關因乃弟事挂誤,然耶否耶?沂捻聞又平靜,果否?都中竊盜恣行,巨案方熾。《石門》、《華山》俱借不到,古墨因緣殆不可強,惟《嵩岳訪碑冊》則借在案頭。詩舲吟事蕭索,壽陽則積健為雄,壽臣、心泉酒杯相屬,鲁川、松坪、子□評隙隸勢,竹汀、鷹峯欲涉詩律,惟緒庭、叔和纒人少味,然余意不拒人也。白玉勤幹,翟明恬靜,從無口角,老翁乃為之一適。廠肆近復常往,小小眺矚,所得甚稀。池南屋菊事已殘,梅心又綻,鴈冠英作,《濼社消寒圖》遲遲未就,奈何、奈何!東省見雪未有?人送冬筍否?年節自尋趣興,莫嫌冷淡,人人似傻瓜乃妙也,見此帋可想老翁意興更何牽挂乎?桂夫婦,至、瓜兄弟閱。十一日。 (五)羅汝懷致何紹基札 釋文:蝯先生左右:別又數日,雖同城而稍遠,則不得朝夕繼見,居士食有魚而無車,惟望動履之不時惠顧耳。昨皖中來一玉器,其文僅識三字,似是秦以前物,煩法眼審定見示。《午日詩》恕翁已和,所謂近水樓臺先得月也。對帋五副,亦皖中督兵者之求,不嫌煩否?初九日楳根叩。 《同治元年(1862)午日微雨後晴蝯叟於雨時來又一邨暢談作書并觀明四賢書畫手蹟卷為題一絕留飲不肎徑去蓋叟飲例以日夕也因次卷中文待詔石湖二首韻以紀其事呈同社諸公惠和焉》(蝯叟詩云:佳節來尋又一邨,蒼深雨後好林園。前賢書畫閒披覽,何必商量問酒樽。) 一棹浮湘浪湧空,鄉村又見會城中。初更晦朔宵無月,欲拂塵埃遠有風。南郭濫竽慙莫解,西窗剪燭意何窮(故友鄒叔績孝廉昔居此室,曾共談叙)。故人徑為題詩至,三百年來續四公。 當階老樹入雲深,破曉喧聞累百禽。酒客去酣申後飲,雲師來埽午前陰。枇杷晚翠無留果(園中枇杷最為大觀,殆世所希有,果未甚熟而已盡矣),欄檻餘清尚密林。半載鄉居詩興減,吟成猶帶土匏音。 楳根居士汝懷未定槀。鈐印:稚松軒 (六)方朔致何紹基札 釋文:子貞山長大人講席:《古微堂外集》三本已經鈔就,原本奉完,祈檢入。惟《內集》中尚有古經、小學二三十頁,所見極高,尚未鈔下,復費尊神將此本發下,再為一鈔,不過十餘日即將原本奉繳。瑣瀆尊嚴,悚惶之至,亦恃久在不棄耳。專此鳴謝,敬請道安,容趨不盡。學人方朔頓首,三月三十日。 再啓者:後宣門有一寶古齋,收得石濤大山水一幀,係寫遊賞紅葉詩意,境界亦奇雅,不及高齋所懸巨障,然亦不多得,惜其索值三十金,未敢購而藏之耳。尊者如欲一覽,何妨遣人一取。朔又啓。鈐印:□司馬印、臣朔 (七)喬松年致何紹基札 釋文:蝯叟先生世叔大人閣下:頃奉手書,良慰懷想,比維動定□□。□□子文兄極有將才,惟皖餉極絀,子文所知,勢不能為其增立營分,而渠官職較崇,又不可以任雜差,難於位置,未敢請其來皖。代其設想,當以往依湘鄉公為宜,縱不帶勇,尚可留於營務處治事。若松年處,以總兵辦營務猶可,以提督辦營務則不可也。日前賊又犯皖,幸已擊退,而大雨不止,淮水暴溢,壽州四門堵塞,人從城上□□□□□中凡十餘日。今聞震雷,陰霾頓埽,可望暢晴矣。鲁川今權廉訪壽州,竟無學人,孫鼎臣家為此間名族,但多工舉業耳。敬此上覆,虔請道安,諸惟垂詧。覆子文一信另行遞交。世愚姪喬松年頓首。 前聞蝯翁在滬上時,樂為人作字而受其謝。壽春雖陋,亦頗□仰高賢翰墨,如有對聯條幅寄來,當可計幅取值。尊意如以為可,祈揮灑一二百件,條幅以四幅成件,交歐陽信甫,八月間有專人到彼處,自能帶來。以此助先生飲酒之資,亦無傷風雅耳。又頓首。 (八)勞崇光致何紹基札 釋文:子貞大兄大人閣下:十三年不見,思何可支。上年得手書,知琴從已自齊回楚,並知數千里迂迴曲折,看山水,訪友朋,極壯游之樂事,嚮往者久。因書到時正值高涼,軍務喫緊,籌兵籌餉,旦夕不遑。又值島人將退城,料量善後,倍形繁雜。報章日延一日,蹉跎至今,歉甚、罪甚。然以書中有踰嶺看梅之說,以為秋間之際必惠然肯來,可圖暢叙,不知其僅託空言也。今春聞已到桂林,又以為一葉扁舟必將順灕江東下,詎陽朔看山後,又已改乘轅而北,為之悵然。海山仙館無恙,尚可居,《雲麾碑》亦無恙,非親來不可得也,老兄其有意乎?潤之竟作古人,來書所言,何以無左驗,都死生有命,脈本無憑耶?不然或和緩之術,尚未臻絕頂耶?一笑。弟到東將近三年,聞說綠珠殊絕世,我來偏值墜樓時,地方殘破,閭市彫零,不可名狀。三年來苦心孤詣,極力維持,漸有轉機,尚無起色。而中外不相體諒,遽以二十年前膏腴完善之粤東相待責備,誅求有加無已,動輒得咎,其奈之何?至於同舟水火,傾軋誣陷,更有出人意計外者,轉令人回首三管窘鄉,如在天上耳。阮文達所刻《經解》,他族入城毀於兵燹,頃已為補刻竣事,原本誤字概行改正。拱北樓銅壺滴漏,元時故物也,亦因兵燹流落民間,殘缺破損,亦經搜訪得之,補綴完好。多事之秋,何暇及此,同人多誚其癡,此等事非三分癡氣人不肯幹,然我兄聞之,或以為尚不癡乎?子敬安往,在家耶?往浙耶?草草,奉訊安佳,不盡欲語。弟崇光頓首。壬戌(1862)四月廿四日。 (九)何紹基行草書札 釋文:筆記及帖跋多精語,文偶有佳篇,詩則實為魔道,何苦要刻許多?文尚可選出四十二篇。蝯叟記,乙丑(1865)秋孟月廿四日。鈐印:何紹基印 (十)吳雲行書詩札 (一)《丁巳祀竈日子貞太史自蘇之浙星齋少宰暨履卿內郎玉泉比部秉齋太守筱珊都轉公餞於一松一石之廬各賦詩贈行余亦率成四絕即次少宰元均》 尊前人倚一枝笛,窗外花開幾樹梅。勝會不常拚痛飲,况今大地已春回。 座中有客獨清臞,好取雲山作畫圖。祗恐御屏錄何琬,未容詩酒老江湖。 廿年不□孤山面,恨不相從共探梅。去去西湖莫留滯,試燈風裏盼君回。 人與孤松一樣癯,慿君寫作不凋圖。試看下筆開生面,千疊雲山萬頃湖。 錄呈諸唫壇教正。平齋吳雲初稿。鈐印:吳雲私印 (二)《集一松一石之廬即席口號次玉泉比部韻錄呈教正》 竹林當日醉清巵,此會居然繼昔時(時同集七人)。座上客多湖海氣,庭前樹有雪霜姿。人才莫漫嗤今薄,我輩原應與古期。梅試初花香入酒,可無好句譜新辭。座逢知己酒塲寬,酒到酣時興未闌。小集賓朋聯舊雨,偶談風月憶長安。彦章作畫空㳘輩,邠老吟詩得古歡。吏部詞章水部字,一時珠玉落豪端。 平齋吳雲初艸。鈐印:吳雲私印 鑑藏印:曾在常州惲氏 (十一鈐)

Wang Jiyuan was an established watercolorist and oil painter by 1919, and founded the renowned Tien Ma Society in Shanghai with Liu Haisu to promote Western Style. In the 1920s he lived in Europe and in the early 1940s he moved to the United States and established the School of Chinese Brushwork in New York. Wang Jiyuan was a colleague of many well-known Chinese artists, including Chang Dai-Chien, Wang Yachen, and Pan Yuliang.
