Dorothy (Corn Maiden) and Paul (White Corn) Gutierrez were both born in 1940, he into Santa Clara Pueblo, she into the Navajo Nation. Paul's grandparents were Lela and Van Gutierrez, his father Luther (of Margaret and Luther Gutierrez). Paul began working with clay around the age of twelve while Dorothy first touched clay in day school. They were married in 1965 and had two sons, Gary and Paul, Jr. Dorothy and Paul specialize in storytellers, mudheads, angels, animals, ornaments and Nativity's, in black and red. Paul and Dorothy Gutierrez are a husband and wife pottery-making team at Santa Clara Pueblo. Paul is the grandson of Lela and Van Gutierrez and the son of Luther Gutierrez, (of Margaret & Luther fame), all of Santa Clara Pueblo. Dorothy is Diné, and has been an active potter since the 1970s. She and Paul specialize in figurative pottery. Paul and Dorothy make most of their pottery figurines in the black-on-black style, but have made red-on-buff style on occasion.
