        WEDGWOOD WILLIAM HACKWOOD CREAMWARE PORTRAIT MEDALLION OF THOMAS BENTLEY, CIRCA 1778 English glazed creamware oval portrait medallion of Thomas Bentley, circa 1778, unmarked, by William Hackwood (circa 1757-1839) at Wedgwood, modeled in high-relief depicted in Grecian garb, the bust-length portrait to dexter, pierced at the top for hanging Catalogue note: Thomas Bentley (1730-1780) was business partner of Josiah Wedgwood. For a related modern jasperware medallion, reference the Victoria & Albert Collection, no. WE.5038-2014. This highly sculptural relief, which is purposefully pierced at the top for hanging, is thought to have hung in the Wedgwood studios as a model for studio artists.
