He and his family moved to join Eric Gill at Ditchling in 1923, where he became a member of the Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic.

      Philip Hagreen (British, 1890-1988) Portrait of a Priest signed lower right "Philip Hagreen 1919" oil on canvas 68 x 56cm In 1919 Hagreen was living in Shower Row, Shaftesbury, Dorset. He came to Ditchling in 1922 to work with Eric Gill in the Ditchling community of artists. He initially trained under Norman Garstin and Harold and Laura Knight in Cornwall and is perhaps more well known as one of the founders of the Society of Woodengravers.
