      This engraving, based on the James Walker's painting of the same name, depicts the massive assault of what became known as Pickett's Charge. Pickett's Charge took place on the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg (July 1–3, 1863) of the Civil War. This engraving shows a panoramic view of the battlefield with Union soldiers in the foreground in the heat of battle. In the background, plumes of smoke are visible as the battle is seen reaching the horizon.
