      Charles Edward Halle (British, 1846-1914) "The Nurse Arranging a Meeting for the Lovers Romeo and Juliet", oil on canvas, signed lower right "C. E. Halle", verso with canvas stamp "Lechertier Barbe & Co., 60 Regent St., London", 60" x 48". Presented in a period carved giltwood exhibition frame with a plain slip and an outer band of scrolling foliate and floral carving with acanthine corner accents. Note: Charles Edward Halle was a painter of history scenes, genre scenes and portraits. He was the son of Sir Charles Halle, a pianist and conductor. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1866 through 1882 and at the Grosvenor Gallery along with the paintings of his close friends Edward Burne-Jones, George Frederic Watts and Lawrence Alma-Tadema."
