Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 3,600 Euro Miniature portrait of an unknown gentleman, dressed in the typical fashion of the 1820’s and distinguished by a decoration of the army. The work is similar to works from Carl von Hampeln, so seems to be from his time and from artistic environment. Condition: The miniature is in a good condition consistent with age. The surface is rubbed. The blue jacket is probably retouched as an inspection in ultraviolet light shows. The work measures 7.2 x 6 cm. The frame shows light signs of usage consistent with age and measures 15.8 x 14.2 cm. Carl von Hampeln (1794-1880) Carl von Hampeln, or Karl Karlovich Gampeln, was born in Moscow. His received his education at the ‘Wiener Kunstakademie’ among others. From 1817 to 1826 he worked in St. Peterborough to thereupon settle in Moscow again. Carl von Hampeln was one of the best lithographs in Russia and served a big network of clients with his miniatures. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
