    "James and Francis Dearden", oil on canvas, both painted in Liverpool England in 1806, the attractive young couple in the latest English Regency summer attire, he with sky behind, she with architecture, trees and sky, only she is signed and dated on the front, both have original pencil notes preserved on back that read: "James Dearden, Painted by Matthew Haughton of Liverpool in 1806 in the 33d Year of His Age" & "Francis, Wife of James Dearden, painted by Matthew Houghton of Liverpool in the 35th year of her age in 1806". Housed in matching gilt ribbed cove frames, OS: 34 1/2" x 30 1/2", SS: 27 1/4" x 23 1/4", cleaned and relined, retouched, on new museum stretchers, very good condition.
