A striking composition entitled "Apostle" by award-winning artist, writer, and filmmaker John Haugse who worked in a distinctive abstract style. The apostle's visage departs from being representational; instead Haugse executed it with dramatic expressionism, using form and gesture to achieve his effect. An impressive work by Haugse, set in a custom matte and frame. Size of print: 16.5" L x 6.5" W (41.9 cm x 16.5 cm) Size of frame: 23.25" L x 12.875" W (59.1 cm x 32.7 cm) Haugse earned his BFA from San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied with Richard Diebenkorn and Frank Lobdell, among other luminaries. In 1964, he earned his MFA at the University of Oregon. He also taught in art departments at Harvard University’s Carpenter Center, UC Santa Barbara College of Creative Studies, Lewis and Clark College in Portland, and the Pacific Northwest College of Art. In 1976, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and produced an animated thematic study of love lost and regained entitled "Freefall".
