    Samuel James Bouverie Haydon (British, 1815-1891), "Family Reading Together in a Landscape," watercolor on paper, c. 1840/50, signed lower right "S. Haydon," measures 6 x 8 inches to the edge of the matt, overall in the frame, 14.50 x 12.25 inches. CONDITION: Good, toning, possibly remains of a faded title above the signature. Primarily known as a sculptor, Haydon also worked as a medallist, painter, and was involved in early photography. He was born in Heavitree, Devon. Although he originally worked primarily as an attorney, in 1838 he began the study of sculpture with Edward Hodges Baily, R.A., from there his career blossomed and he successfully exhibited for nearly three decades at the Royal Academy in London.
