    Original oil on canvas depicting "An Airport In Days To Come", signed at lower right edge "Heaslip" (William John Heaslip, Canadian/American, 1898-1970), mounted in gilt wood frame; 39 1/2"W x 27 1/4"H; paint loss around edges, soiling along left side---This c. 1940s illustration was used in the Coca-Cola "Our America" educational poster series. The series was developed by Coca-Cola to be used as teaching aids in the elementary school classroom and were distributed to schools in special publicity / teachers' kits. (Ref. 11)

    This lot features a pair (2) of original oil on canvas illustrator art panels. These pieces were used in a published book to illustrate scenes by William John Heaslip (American 1898 - 1970). William John Heaslip was born in Toronto, Canada. He exhibited an interest in art at an early age and was apprenticed to a lithographer. Heaslip's other interest was aviation, and when he was old enough, he joined the Royal Flying Corps, serving during World War I. Following the war, Heaslip came to New York City and began formal art studies at the Art Students League. He continued his studies at the school of the National Academy of Design where he won the Suydam Medal. With his art studies complete, Heaslip combined his two loves, painting and aviation and began doing illustrations. These pieces come with three editions of "The American Legion Monthly" magazines in which these and other works by Heaslip were published. Excellent condition. Each canvas measures 27" x 11".
