    Slavery London, England, ca. 1838 Henry Heath 1838 "Slavery and Freedom" Political Sketch Art Tonal sketch by British caricaturist Henry Heath (1801-1858), "Slavery and Freedom!!", depicting a Jamaican slave owner and an Irish landlord shaking hands and comparing their wealth. 1p, on heavyweight paper measuring 15.25" x 11.75". At top sketch reads, "Political Sketches H. H. No. 19". Signed, "HH", at bottom left. Published March 21, 1838, by W. Soffe, 380 Strand, London. Printed by William Kohler, Lithographer, 22 Denmark Street, Soho, London. Pencil notations at verso from previous collector. Moderate scattered foxing and dampstaining. Creasing, with some small tears at top and bottom edges. Else, in very good condition. At left, a Jamaican slave owner says, "You see, Brother Dan, the Source from which I derive my wealth", while pointing to slaves working hard in the fields under threat of a raised whip. At right, an Irish landlord says, "Hitherto I have been equally successful, but I fear it cannot last, my Slaves have of late become much dissatisfied, when called upon for Rint, and threaten to seek a better Master", as he points to a skeletal-looking family of tenant farmers with their emaciated pig.
