    ROOKWOOD WILLIAM HENTSCHEL (1892-1962) ART POTTERY VASE

    Est: $100 - $200

    ROOKWOOD WILLIAM HENTSCHEL (1892-1962) ART POTTERY VASE, double-handled, having mottled purple and blue glaze with faint repeated ray design to shoulder. Marks to underside include Hentschel's incised mark, and impressed Rookwood logo with rays to underside, "XIII", and "2081". Rookwood Pottery, Cincinnati, OH. Dated 1913. 3 3/8" HOA. Catalogue Note: William Hentschel first started working for the Rookwood Pottery in 1909. He produced over 4000 designs for the company, including helping to develop and popularize the Art Deco style there before leaving the pottery in 1939. Hentschel also developed new and successful techniques as a print maker and taught at the Cincinnati Art Academy, retiring from there in 1957. Hentschel died in Burlington, Kentucky in June of 1962.

Catalog Note: This is one of those Rookwood pieces that we attribute to William Hentschel for carving not in keeping with the shape number.
