Henziross’ Stamped and labelled on verso by another hand 35 x 42.5 cm Good condition The watercolour ‘Im Dürrgraben’ was made by the Swiss artist Eugen Henziross (1877-1961) at the beginning of the 20υth century. There is a farmhouse, hidden amidst a landscape with hills and fields. Framed by trees, it makes a remarkably peaceful impression. The work is in good condition with slight age-related signs of wear. The paper is slightly wavy and shows minimal foxing; the mat likewise. The watercolour is signed lower left ‘E. Henziross’ and labelled by another hand on the card, verso. There is a label with details about the artist and the painting. The piece measures 35 x 42.5 cm (canvas); 58.5 x 64 cm (framed). Eugen Henziross Eugen Henziross was born on the 24υth of June 1877 in Niederbuchsiten, Solothurn and died on the 13υth of June 1961 in Bern. He worked as a painter, graphic artist, illustrator and art teacher in Bern. Henziross studied at the academy of applied arts in Basel and at the Technikum Winterthur. He designed posters and illustrations for pamphlets – the ‘Basler Fliegenden Blätter’; ‘Die Schweiz’ and ‘Jugendborn’. He taught at the municipal art school from 1908 to 1921 and also at the academy of applied arts in Bern. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. EUGEN HENZIROSS (1877-1961) Berne-Loetschberg-Simplon. Originating in the Swiss capital of Bern, the BLS line makes its way to its Italian terminus via two of the most important tunnels constructed in European rail history the Lötschberg Tunnel, which created a direct link between Bern and the Rhone Valley, and the Simplon Tunnel, which connects the Swiss town of Brig with Domodossola in Italy. In 1997, the Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon railway merged with three other Swiss railways to create largest standard-gauge network on the Swiss system apart from the Federal Railways. However, all of this technological prowess would be far less enticing to the consumer than this Henziross poster that, though non-dismissive of the BLS line wisely focuses on the visual magnificence of a ride through the Bernese highlands. Henziross taught both technical and artistic drawing for many years in Bern, while at the same time establishing himself as a watercolor landscape artist, illustrator for several magazines and newspapers, as well as a posterist.
