Benoît Lucien Hercule (1848-1913), Sailor Boy, Bronze, c. 1900

Bronze with red-brown and brown patina France, circa 1900 Benoît Lucien Hercule (1848-1913) - French sculptor and medal artist With the engraved signature 'B. Hercule' at the right side of the base With the foundry stamp 'SOCIETE DES BRONZES DE PARIS' verso on the base Incised inscription on the sailor hat 'INTREPIDE' Height including the basis: 34 cm Good Condition The present bronze sculpture is executed in a naturalistic manner and depicts a young sailor who weaves a sailor's knot into a pair of ropes with a determined expression on his face. Fittingly, his cap is labeled with the word 'intrépide' - the French expression for daring and boldness. Condition: The patina is slightly rubbed in a few places, especially at the edges of the base and the boy's clothes. The overall impression is very good, however. The sculpture measures 34 cm in height. Benoît Lucien Hercule (1848-1913) The French medal artist and sculptor Lucien Benoit Hercule was born in 1848 and studied in Paris under François Jouffroy. From 1874 Hercule exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, where his work received numerous favorable reviews. He carried out commissions for the Paris town hall and the facade of the museum in Rouen. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
