Hugo Paul Herdeg Sold at Auction Prices

Two gelatin silver prints, 10 5/8 x 6 ¼- inches with Herdeg's Paris stamp on verso, 1930's [?], printed later. The Swiss Herdeg (1909 - 1953) was a member of the Paris circle of painters and other artists. He was employed for many years by the Musée de l'Homme, for which these photographs were made. His clean "neue Sachlichkeit" photographs of museum objects are reminiscent of those by Walker Evans. The prints are rich, but possibly because of the unusual format, tall and relatively narrow, there is some damage at the top and bottom edges. These can be seen best in the scan of the back. [D3+]
