Ludwig Hermann, Coastal Landscape with a Harbour Town

Signed and dated lower right: L Hermann f. 1878Ludwig Hermann was a pupil of Johann Gottfried Schadow at the Prussian academy of art in Berlin, and was also taught by Eugène Isabey whilst residing in Paris from 1837-38. Further sojourns led the artist to Italy and to London several times, where he was also able to exhibit his works. He participated in the exhibition of the Berlin Academy as early as 1836.
