Joseph-Guillaume-Jean Camberlyn (1783-1861). Brssel. 19th century Collector's stamp, Lugt no.: 1092a. Thomas Graf (1878-1951). Berlin. 20th century Inscription: lower left signed in the printing plate: "D. Herreyns". Date: c. 1700 Description: Lively scene with a view of a landscape garden. Five female figures move expressively in the foreground in wrinkled antique robes. The one kneeling in the centre is bitten on the heel by a snake, on the left a figure with a wreath of flowers flees from the unhappy bride. On the right stands Cupid with bow and arrow, aiming at the snake. Possibly a humorous allegory of a bride afflicted by misfortune. Restored in the upper corners.
