        IMPRESSIONISTISCHE STADTANSICHT MIT KIRCHTURM IM WINTER Öl auf Leinwand. 38 x 30,5 cm. Rechts unten signiert. Verso Galerieaufkleber. Das Gemälde ist während der Aufenthalte des amerikanischen Malers in Europa, wohl in England entstanden. Der Vater Hermann Ottomar Herzog war bereits Maler in Deutschland, der in die USA übersiedelte. Lewis Edward studierte ebenfalls in Deutschland, 1888 bis 1893 an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, zuletzt in der Landschaftsklasse von Eugen Gustav Dücker. Studienreisen, auch zusammen mit Alfred Sohn-Rethel, führten u. a. nach Venedig, wo er auch an der Biennale 1897 teilnahm. 1893 zurück in den USA, stellte er seine Bilder in Pennsylvania aus, wo er mit einer Medaille geehrt wurde. 1912 zeigte er Werke in New York. Seine neoimpressionistische Malweise unterscheidet sich wesentlich von der seines Vaters. A.R. (13810518) (11)
