BIOGRAPHY: Jeffrey Hessing was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to the medieval village of Vence, France in 1980. The vivid landscapes and interiors from France convey the intensity of the region's color and light, as well as the passionate way in which inhabitants of Provence savor every aspect of life. Currently Hessing resides in Zhujiajiao, Shanghai, China, an ancient water village which he describes as magical. From France to China and places in between, Hessing's work diarizes his life in brilliant color. Painting on rooftops, from bridges, or from wilderness perches have turned his plein-air painting into an adventure. His extensive travels for exhibitions have provided exotic subjects for landscapes, interiors, cityscapes, and accumulated objects.A student of American sculptor and printmaker Leonard Baskin, Hessing is also strongly influenced by the Fauvist palette and their wildly expressive techniques. While Hessing has exhibited extensively throughout France, he has also exhibited in China, Hong Kong, Monaco, South Korea, Switzerland, Slovakia, England, and has shown at Pucker Gallery for more than 30 years. His work is included in the permanent collection of Boston Public Library, and the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
