Jacob von der Heyden (1573 Strasbourg - 1646 Brussels): Drawing book, Reiss booklet, c. 1634, Woodcut Technique: Woodcut on Paper, mounted on Paper Inscription: Inscribed below the medallion: "Gedruckt zu StrasStraßburg...Anno, M. DC. XXXLV.". Labelled lower right with collector's number "4472 / R". Date: c. 1634 Description: "Reiss-Büchlein[...] Dabey das Leben deß weltberühmten Michael Agnolo Buonarruotti, Mahler/Bildhauer/und Baumeister von Florentz", Strasbourg. Inscribed on the title page "Reiss-Büchlein / Jacob von der Heyden". With beautiful frontispiece. Inscribed "ARS ET LABOR BEAT" in the medallion. Von der Heyden's "Reiss-Büchlein", published in Strasbourg in 1634, the first part of a comprehensive book of drawings that focussed on the parts of the face and then on the human head and chest in its 30 plates. The "Human Glide Masses" already announced in the title, i.e. entire figures and compositions, were to be supplied in a later collection of engravings.
