      Oil on artist board. Gus (Gustaf) Henning Higgins. Depicting a disabled veteran with cane and peg leg standing with newspaper about civil war. Signed and dated lower left "Gus. Higgins-04". Housed in a mid-century molded frame in gold wash. SIZE: 14" x 8 3/4" sight. Overall 17" x 11 1/2". PROVENANCE: From the Bevinn O'Brien Estate of Portland, Maine. CONDITION: painting is thin in several areas. (05-7/TG). $500-700.

Dimensions: Frame : 18 1/2" x 15 1/2"  | Image 11" x 9" Gus C (Lindstom) Higgins was a Swedish-born artist, illustrator and cartoonist who emigrated to the United States in 1879 and worked in the 1880-90s in Chicago as an artist for The Chicago Tribune, Chicago Globe and The Graphic. Inspection under loop and magnification gives evidence of hand-drawing and a pencil signature. A beautiful period-era style woman with large eyes, classical hair and grape wreath crown. Some foxing and toning evident from acid leeching from the original mat and wooden back. White spots of moisture and/or mildew appear along the far edges of the mat. Frame is in rough condition with chips. Photos will serve to represent any other condition issues. Condition reports will be answered up until 24 prior to auction time.
