Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 4,000 Euro Condition: The painting is in good overall condition. Occasional retouching, primarily in the sky, visible under UV light. Two of them professionally patched on the reverse. The surface is a little dusty, partially minor craquelure, otherwise generally of good impression. The image dimensions are 97 x 90 cm, frame dimensions 115 x 107 cm. Adolf Piersch (1858-1929) Piersch was born 1848 in Gradaz in Krain. He was first trained by the Graz Academy and Gallery Director Heinrich Schwach and finally completed his studies at the Graz Academy in 1879. This was followed by study trips to Rome, Venice and Florence. After several years of residence in Dresden, Piersch moved to England, where he became an important portraitist of the upper class. He portrayed among others the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph, Pope Leo XII and created numerous female portraits from the British and European aristocracy.
