          Morris Henry Hobbs (1892 - 1967) Watercolor on paper, Signed Lower Left, Measures (5.5 x 3.5 inches) w/frame (10.5 x 8.5 inches) Morris Henry Hobbs, etcher, engraver, painter, illustrator, woodcarver and teacher was born on January 1, 1892 in Rockford, Illinois. He studied drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago and with Ernest Dean, Clarissa Keith, and Ralph Fletcher Seymour, primarily illustrators. He later branched off into the study of architecture, and was identified with that profession for many years. In 1921, several years after his return from overseas service with the American Expeditionary Force at which time he lost his hearing, he moved to Toledo, Ohio, and practiced architecture. He traveled throughout Europe, including, England, Belgium and France to draw, paint, and study etching. One of his small prints was accepted for an exhibition by the Brooklyn Society of Etchers, and his work began to appear here and there in exhibitions. This was in 1926 and 1927, when his first etchings and dry points were made. I

          Morris Henry Hobbs (1892 - 1967) Watercolor on Paper, Signed Lower Right, Measures ( 11.5 x 18 inches ) w/frame ( 20 x 24 inches ) Morris Henry Hobbs, etcher, engraver, painter, illustrator, woodcarver and teacher was born on January 1, 1892 in Rockford, Illinois. He studied drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago and with Ernest Dean, Clarissa Keith, and Ralph Fletcher Seymour, primarily illustrators. He later branched off into the study of architecture, and was identified with that profession for many years. In 1921, several years after his return from overseas service with the American Expeditionary Force at which time he lost his hearing, he moved to Toledo, Ohio, and practiced architecture. He traveled throughout Europe, including, England, Belgium and France to draw, paint, and study etching. One of his small prints was accepted for an exhibition by the Brooklyn Society of Etchers, and his work began to appear here and there in exhibitions. This was in 1926 and 1927, when his first etchings and dry points were made.

          Original Morris Hobbs etching entitled “Old New Orleans”. Limited edition of 200 written in pencil and signed by Morris. The etching measures 9.5” x 6” inches. Nicely matted. Morris Henry Hobbs was born in Rockford, Illinois in 1892. While living in Estaples, France, he studied at the Chicago Art Institute and with J. Ernest Dean, Ralph Fletcher Seymour, and other American and British artists. The Smithsonian Institute recognized his work, and he was given a one-man show from November 29, 1936 to January 3, 1937. Hobbs relocated to New Orleans in 1938, where he continued his work with his now-famous series of French Quarter Etchings. Hobbs was also the founder of the New Orleans Etcher's Society and was well-known for his miniature "postage stamp" female nudists. Hobbs later worked for Favrot, Reed, Mathes, and Bergman, a New Orleans architectural firm. He finished a number of original pencil drawings of significant buildings there.
