      Johann Samuel Hötzendorf Sulzbach 1694 - Wien 1742 , Ideal Italian Landscape, Oil/canvas, 64 x 96,5 cm, lo. ri. sign. Hözendorff, min. rest., relined., Austrian landscape a. history painter. H. probably began his artistical training in Munich; no later than 1720 he was in Rome. In 1723 he settled in Vienna as an established artist. He won the first prize of the Vienna academy in 1731. He also executed many commissions for the Göttweig monastery near Vienna.

      JOHANN SAMUEL HÖTZENDORF, TWO SCENES WITH TOBIAS AND THE ANGEL, Hötzendorf studied with J. F. Beich in Munich and later in Rome where he lived from 1720. In 1723 he moved to Vienna. In Austia the Benedictine order Göttweig near Krems became one of his most important patrons. In 1728 he painted the altar piece and in 1735 frecos for the staircase for them. Hötzendorf also painted landscapes and was appreciated for his brushstroke, his use of perspective as well as his rendition of the air and the tree foliage. 44.5 x 34 cm each, Oil on canvas (relined)
