      Est: $400 - $600

Phyllis Hollands-Robinson (American, 1920-2010) Painting. Title - Girl Feeding Pigeon. Oil on canvas painting. Signed lower right Hollands Robinson. Painting measures 24 inches high, 18 inches wide. Frame measures 30 inches high, 24 inches wide. In good condition. Phyllis Hollands-Robinson artist, of Naples, Florida, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at her home. Born January 20, 1920, Phyllis was the only child of Dr. Augustus Hollands, a prominent North Shore physician, and his artist wife, Catherine Una Gilmer Hollands, both of whom preceded her in death. Her beloved husband, Dr. M.J. (Robbie) Robinson, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her two daughters, Catherine Bufkin (William) of Algonquin, IL, and Anne Hollands Howard (Richard K., deceased) of Naples, FL; and also a grandson, Colin Timothy Joyce (Jessica) of Lake Villa, IL. Phyllis Hollands grew up in Kenilworth, IL. She was educated at the Roycemore School in Evanston and at New Trier High School in Winnetka. She continued her education as an art major at Fairmont College in Washington, D.C., followed by further study at the American Academy of Fine Arts, the Academie de la Grande Chaumière, and other ateliers in Paris including that of Montmartre artist, Pierre Bertrand, the last living student of Claude Monet. Bertrand is credited by Hollands-Robinson as having influenced her work more than any other major artists she studied with, here and abroad. She had over 55 one-man exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe, her paintings are in the prominent collections of nine museums in France and has received countless awards. During her years in Naples, Darvish Galleries was given exclusive rights to represent her work. Burial will be private. Biography from the Archives of askART: Phyllis Hollands-Robinson, married to Dr. M.J. (Robbie) Robinson, was until here death in 2010, one of the few living painters whose work stems directly from the great French Impressionists. Studies at the American Academy of Art, Chicago Academy of Art, Académie de la Grande Chaumière and other ateliers in Paris were, of course, good basic training , but her true knowledge was acquired through her painting with Pierre Bertrand, who was known as Le Grandpere of post-Impressionism. Bertrand was a severe critic to Hollands-Robinson as Monet, Renoir, Pissaro and Gauguin were to him. Impressionism never has ceased to delight my senses. It deals with light and nature, the source of all things. The beauty of which the best artists can never quite recreate, therefore a constant challenge. Hollands-Robinson has had over 50 one-woman exhibitions throughout the US and Europe, and exhibited in the Royal Academy in London. Her paintings are in the permanent collections of nine museums in France including Bordeaux and Avignon. She is the first American artist invited to show at the prestigious Paris exhibition presented annually by the Musee Galleria by Les Peintres Temoins de leur Temps. Among her numerous collectors are Dr. & Mrs. Wolfgang Porsche (Stuttgart-St.Thomas-St.Tropez), Eunice Kennedy Shriver (MA,USA), Mr. J.C. Totman (Switzerland) and Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Erickson (Hawaii-Illinois,USA
